C. Mitchell Page, JD, RN, BSN
Attorney at Law (18 Years)
Registered Nurse (24 Years)
Hospital Director of Risk Management (6 1/2 Years)
Medical Malpractice Sr. Claims Specialist (6 1/2 Years)
Background and Experience
Mitchell is not your typical Legal Nurse Consultant. His combined experience as an attorney, nurse, and medical malpractice insurance adjuster makes him uniquely qualified in the field of medical-legal consulting.
Mitchell began his nursing career as a staff nurse in the Cardio-Thoracic Intensive Care Unit at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. He then returned to school to obtain his Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Juris Doctor while continuing to work in home health care.
Upon graduation from the UK College of Law, Mitchell began his legal career at a general civil litigation firm focused primarily on premises liability and personal injury defense. He later changed firms to focus his practice exclusively on medical malpractice defense. Mitchell was then asked to join the staff of one of the nation’s largest medical malpractice insurance companies as a Senior Claims Specialist, where he handled complex medical malpractice claims on behalf of physician and hospital insureds.
Mitchell’s most recent experience was as Director of Risk Management and Patient Safety Officer for a regional adult hospital focusing on neurosurgery and orthopaedic surgery.
Mitchell recently opened Page-Medical Legal Consulting, offering his services to both plaintiffs’ and defense counsel, as well as individuals and healthcare organizations.
Initial Merit Review and Case Analysis
Page Medical-Legal Consulting is available to review all cases involving health-related issues, from personal injury and medical malpractice, to Workers’ Compensation and Social Security Disability.
Mitchell will explain the medical issues central to the case, as well as the pros and cons of the case in light of his extensive experience. This information can be relayed either verbally or via written report.
Mitchell will give his honest opinion on the merits of a particular case (or lack thereof), helping attorneys focus only on those cases that warrant a further investment of time and money.
Medical Record Summary/ Chronology Development
Electronic medical records can be daunting to even the most seasoned healthcare professional.
Mitchell can help simplify the issues and direct you to the key medical records. He can also summarize the records and create a medical chronology in a format of your choosing. This initial effort benefits the client by streamlining the expert review process, saving the client hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars.
Finally, Mitchell can assist in discovery efforts by identifying documents or other evidence that may be available but is otherwise not not produced because it is not a part of the “official” medical record.
Expert Witness Identification and Litigation Support
From meeting with prospective clients to focusing discovery efforts, Mitchell is available every step of the way through the litigation process.
This may include identification of potential expert witnesses and/or facilitation of expert witness review, assistance with drafting/analyzing medical portions of legal documents, and supporting clients during depositions, alternative dispute resolution, and at trial.
Independent Medical Exam (IME) Attendance
Page Medical-Legal Consulting is available to assist workers’ compensation attorneys throughout the Independent Medical Examination (IME) process.
Mitchell will attend your client’s examination, supporting your client while taking detailed notes of the clinical exam process and findings, which will be summarized in a formal, written report. He would also be available to testify regarding his observations, should that be necessary.
Living Will/Advance Directive Preparation
Over the years, Mitchell has seen how a properly executed Living Will or Advance Directive can ease the burden of making difficult decisions regarding the care and treatment of loved ones. He has also seen how a poorly executed document can make an already difficult decision more painful.
Mitchell will guide you through the process of drafting a Living Will or Advance Directive to make your wishes known to your family, your designated decision-maker, and your medical providers.
